The Artisan Bacon Company is a project headed by Jeff Roland, Partner of Family Butchers, RC Roland & Son. Established in 1904 RC Roland & Son are based in Amble, Northumberland and have a glowing reputation for the quality of their meats, both locally and nationally. Over the last few years we have noticed an increased interest in our bacon lines, both smoked, dry and sweet cured which has led us to introduce a number of specialised bacons using locally sourced ingredients.
These include Northumbrian made beers, coffee and honey which we include in our own recipes. We have used the same traditional smokehouse exclusively in Northumberland for over 30 years. A fourth generation butcher, Jeff and his team have a combined working knowledge of over 85 years in dealing with bacon and curing.

Our philosophy has never changed; we buy only from the highest quality sources. Since its inception by Mr RC Roland the company has prided itself on its high standards and professionalism, over 100 years of knowledge, skill and expertise has been handed down through four generations of the Roland family, since 1994 the business has been managed by Mr Roland’s Great Grandson J S Roland

Our Artisan Bacons
Our Traditional Northumbrian Oak Smoked Back Bacon
Our biggest seller, this bacon has been smoked in a traditional Northumbrian smokehouse using old tried and tested methods, our backs are hung and left to smoke for at least 3 days using oak chippings, this leaves a unique and distinctive taste incomparable with any other smoked bacons.
Our Pilgrims Bacon
Our Backs are marinated using coffee ground on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne by Pilgrims Coffee this has a subtle delicate favour with a hint of sweetness and gives off a beautiful aroma while being cooked.
Our Canny Bacon
We use honey produced by bees in the nearby hamlet of Guyzance and the wild moorlands around Rothbury, left to marinate over a number of weeks, it has a beautiful sweet taste, and a hint of wild heather, as you would imagine but not too tart, understated elegance.
The Credence Bacon
Made in cooperation with our friends at Credence Brewing we use an Award Winning 10% Porter Ale amongst the ingredients in this hearty, fully flavoured bacon, nice and tangy but not too overpowering..

We also supply The 1911 Coffee Shop, Amble, with Smoked Harbour Coffee Bacon, again this is made by us for their exclusive use.
Also, just off The A1, north of Alnwick you can call in at The Rocking Horse Café, Rock Moor, Northumberland and enjoy our bacon.
We also supply a number of Bed and Breakfast establishments including Mill House, Guyzance, Northumberland, No16, Amble, Northumberland, Fairfield, Warkworth, Northumberland and Jubilee House, Embleton, Northumberland.
We also produce a number of pies one of which includes Pilgrims Coffee Bacon and Stornaway Black Pudding which won the 2019 Jus-Rol Northern Regional Pie Awards. These have been very popular and we even have sent them to our old heroes at The Royal Chelsea Hospital, London.
